All bootup times on a 700MHz Pentium
- BIOS time = time from turning on the computer, to the operating-system boot-sequence starting
- Bootup time = time until login prompt is displayed, on linux systems
- Login time = time after entering username/password, for the desktop to load
Notes
- Windows98 doesn't have user-logins, so bootup time only is recorded. Linux systems stop and wait for you to identify yourself before starting the desktop
- Mandrake has a 3-second delay for LILO, and a 5-second delay for encrypted disks
- KUbuntu loaded the desktop 29 seconds after logging-in, but took a further 26 seconds to load the panel
